Principal's Message

At Ord Terrace Elementary School, we provide a positive learning environment, establish high expectations, and work collaboratively with each other, families, and the community to ensure all students achieve academic success and demonstrate social responsibility, civic engagement, and contribute to positive social changes. Staff are dedicated to the belief that all children can learn and grow in a safe, affirming, positive environment.

At Ord Terrace, we believe all students need a well-rounded education. Students need comprehensive instruction in academic language use in order to be college- and career-ready, as well as to be empowered to be effective change agents in the world; Ord Terrace has launched a campaign to increase the quality and quantity of academic verbal and written engagement of all students through explicit instruction, consistent routines, and structured academic discourse. Throughout the school day, all students are required to learn and use academic language to discuss and write about rigorous texts, math strategies, science, social studies, and other subjects. We also offer instrumental and general music, art, dance, and after school drama to select grade levels.

Ord Terrace was the first school in Monterey County to implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and we pride ourselves in our work to continue to strengthen this program through culturally responsive practices. Our Playworks structured recess progress helps build cooperative play skills, empathy, and problem-solving skills. 2nd-5th grade Junior Coaches help teach and monitor Playworks games. Our student council gives 3rd-5th graders opportunities to help shape their experiences at school.

Education is a journey, not a destination! I invite you to join us on our journey at Ord Terrace. We welcome families, community members, and other stakeholders to come see for themselves!
